Evian water is teaming up with Rothy’s to repurpose water bottles collected from this year’s US Open into a limited-edition, tennis-inspired capsule collection to debut in September 2022. Each Evian bottles will be mixed with other recycled plastic bottles, and then converted into soft, washable thread that Rothy’s will use to knit every item in the capsule collection. This will leave little waste.
The capsule will target active lifestyles with Rothy’s design team exploring everything from gear to accessories, such as headwear and tennis bags, as well as potentially testing into new categories for the brand. Circular design starts where another product’s lives might have ended. We’re excited to recycle Evian bottles and create beautiful, high-quality products.
Rothy’s builds every product in its wholly-owned workshop, using world-class knitting technology to create footwear and accessories, with nearly no waste. Rothy’s, which pioneered the use of twice-recycled materials in new products, announced its commitment to circular production by 2023. It also invests in nature-based carbon reductions at every mile of shipping, and will achieve carbon neutrality by 2023.
Smeeta Khetarpaul, marketing director for Evian US, added: “We are thrilled to partner with Rothy’s, a company that shares our commitment to circularity, to develop a capsule collection using recycled evian bottles for our consumers to enjoy. Rothy’s sustainability pioneers are the best partner to bring this idea to life.
Like Rothy’s, Evian is pursuing a closed-loop future. The water brand’s bottles currently contain an average 40 percent rPET across its entire range. Evian is committed to using 100 percent recycled plastic in all of its plastic bottles by 2025 and adopting a “circular approach” to plastic use. Evian was also certified as a B Corp in January.
More information on the partnership between Evian and Rothy’s will be announced in 2022.
