New York Fashion Week was kicked off by Christian Siriano’s opulent glamour, featuring elegant evening gowns and tailored suits in neon colors. The models were accompanied by an inclusive cast.

Siriano turned to his past for inspiration for spring/summer 2022. He took inspiration from photos of his grandmother, who was a Positano resident in the 1960s and 1970s. This sunset hue was evident throughout the entire look, starting with Precious Lee’s opening outfit, which featured a neon orange asymmetrical suit and matching crisscross bra. Her closing outfit featured an extravagant tulle skirt in the exact same colour, paired by a stripy bralette.

Siriano is well-known for his fashion sense and dressing up stars on the red carpet.

Siriano commented in the show notes on his spring/summer 2022 collection. He said: “In a moment when so many people need an escape form the world, fashion can be a great place for us to explore. I looked back at my childhood to create this collection. Inspiration came from the Italian women in our lives.”

“The photos of my grandmother on holiday in Positano in the 60’s and 1970’s wearing an apricot orange gown inspired me to create an Italian coastal collection full of colour and joy. It should feel strong and bold, but it should also be romantic like an Italian woman.”

The collection included whimsical ruffled neon ballgowns as well as statement suits with asymmetric tailored, shimmering polka dots dresses, detailed shoulder and arm details, slinky dresses featuring thigh-high sleeves, black lace sheaths and stripes, feather trims, and full-frontal cutouts.

Siriano added, “I hope that this collection transports and inspires you as it did me. It shows that fashion is both nostalgic and hopeful for the future.”

This was unapologetic glamour at it’s finest, and if there is anything fashion needs right now, it’s Siriano’s whimsical take on joy & colour.

Siriano released the following statement in response to the collaboration: “I’m so thrilled and honored to work with an brand that’s existed for such a long period. One of the reasons I’m excited about this collaboration is that I grew up seeing my mom wearing Gloria Vanderbilt jeans in 1980s.”

“The brand is known for representing powerful, diverse women. I look forward to carrying on that tradition.”

In the coming months, a release date for Gloria Vanderbilt’s x Christian Siriano collection will be announced.
