Burberry, a British fashion house, has presented digitally its spring/summer 2022 womenswear line, Animal Instincts. This collection combines classic elements with a new design perspective. This digital fashion show was held right after Milan Fashion Week.
The new womenswear collection mirrors the SS22 menswear collection that was presented in June. It features exaggerated traits, raw details and rebellious forms. This collection aims to “reinvigorate the traditional with a twist on youthful energy”. The presentation featured deconstructed versions of the Burberry gabardine and trench coat, as well as cropped backs with printed swimsuits.
Other outerwear featured new construction techniques, including oversized sleeves and collarless designs. Other styles offered alternative options to British tailoring, such as boxy-fit blazers or scarf-like lapels.
The collection’s elements were inspired by the ‘Universal Passport” look. They feature graphic and geometric colour blocking that is layered and printed on a variety of dresses, shirts and mesh tops. Abstract prints were created to reflect camouflage details in a less obvious form.
Accessory design was further explored with the use of accessories, such as baseball caps with neoprene and conceptual panels, and sock boots with open toes with over-the-knee socks.
Burberry’s Regeneration Fund certified the digital presentation as carbon neutral. This was in addition to measures taken to reduce environmental impacts. The fund was established in 2020 and supports various carbon offset and insetting projects that are based on the company’s footprint.
The runway was created using a variety different techniques to offer a range of sensory experiences. One room was covered in Burberry recycled trench coats. Another room had sparkles arranged to create the runway.
Burberry CEO Riccardo Tisci stated that “this presentation really represents freedom of our imaginations: How we dream to become alive. I wanted to experience a variety of immersive spaces that were different in sound, texture, and experience. It’s the idea of slipping between endless fantasies and realities that we all have at our disposal every day.”
He said, “This is for Elmerinda my mother and to a new journey full of possibilities.”
