Candice Brathwaite, journalist, author, and TV host has teamed up with Been London, a sustainable British accessories brand to create a handbag entirely made from recycled materials.

Limited-edition CB x Been London Collection includes the ‘Esme’ crossbody handbag with ruched detailing. It is named after Brathwaite’s child. Also available in ‘Get Money green and black are a matching makeup bag called ‘Mini Esme.

These bags are 100% made of certified recycled materials, including leather waste from fashion industries, black lining made with discarded clothes recycled into fabric and an interior pocket that features zip tape made from single-use plastic bottles.

Genia Mineeva, founder of Been London and creative director, said that it was an absolute pleasure to collaborate with Candice Brathwaite. We knew that Candice would create a stunning bag when we first saw her wearing the Ridley crossbody.

“The Esme handbag in Candice’s “Get Money” green is our most loved addition to the Been London line. It stands out with its distinctive shape and ruched detailing. It was a pleasure to travel with Candice, learn about sustainable materials and fine-tune the details. Candice was a wonderful collaborator and we are thrilled to be able to share this amazing collection.”

Candice Brathwaite commented on the collaboration: “The process to design and create my own bag was a dream come true, and I’m thrilled to be working alongside Been London.”

“It’s an added bonus that the entire collection is made of certified recycled materials. I also enjoyed learning more about Been London’s sustainability story. The Esme bag is my favorite and I cannot wait to bring it everywhere with me this autumn/winter.”

All Been London bags, which include pieces from this collaboration are made in the brand’s East London workshop. This ensures a low-waste production process and wages for makers.

Genia Mineeva (former BBC journalist) founded the brand. Each bag is fully traceable and certified using Global Recycled Standard certified leather and recycled cotton and Oekotex Standard 100 certified zipper tape. Each piece has an average carbon footprint that is ten times lower than the equivalent high-street bag made from virgin materials.

CB x Been London also plants a tree for each bag it sells. The brand has so far planted 1 acre of trees in Peruvian Amazon.

Exclusively on be.london, the CB x Been London collection can be found. Prices start at 65 Pounds for the Mini Esme and go up to 295 Pounds for the Esme handbag.
